What is a new student?

A new student includes first-time, degree-seeking students, students transferring from another institution, and students who were concurrently enrolled in high school and college.

Complete your NC Residency Determination. This MUST be done before applying.

Transcripts must be sent to WCC directly from the high school and/or previous college(s) you have attended.

  • Contact your high school and/or any previous colleges you have attended and request them to send official transcripts directly to the WCC Admissions Office.
  • Wilkes Community College does not process requests for High School Equivalency transcripts. If you have earned a High School Equivalency in North Carolina, please review the following link for directions on how to request a transcript.  North Carolina Community Colleges High School Equivalency Records
  • If you are a home school student, the home school administrator must provide proof that the home school is certified by the North Carolina Department of Non-Public Instruction and standardized test scores.
By assessing your skills, WCC can determine which English, mathematics, and reading courses are most appropriate for you. A student may be eligible to exempt from placement testing by satisfying certain criteria. Attend a New Student Orientation and Registration Session

Entering students, including first time degree-seeking students, students transferring from another institution, and previous concurrently enrolled students, will be scheduled for an orientation/registration appointment after completing the placement test. Students exempting the placement test must call Student Services at 336-838-6137 to schedule an appointment for orientation.

Please Note: Transcripts and test scores received by the admissions office will be deleted two years after their receipt date if the applicant has not enrolled.
