WCC offers the following arts & culture courses for community education:

This class introduces students to the fundamentals of watercolor techniques, including wet-on-wet, dry-on-wet, and dry-brush methods. Participants learn about essential supplies such as brushes, paper, and pigments, and how to use them effectively. The class covers color theory, mixing, and layering to create depth and contrast in paintings. Students practice creating various subjects, from simple shapes to complex compositions like landscapes, florals, and portraits. Through step-by-step instructions and hands-on practice, the class aims to build confidence and skill in watercolor painting, allowing students to express their creativity and develop their unique artistic style.

This course provides an interdisciplinary study of the unique features of Appalachian culture. Topics include historical, political, sociological, psychological, and artistic features which distinguish this region. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a broad-based awareness and appreciation of Appalachian culture.

This course introduces three-dimensional design principles using the medium of clay. Emphasis is placed on fundamentals of forming, surface design, glaze application, and firing. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate skills in slab and coil construction, simple wheel forms, glaze technique, and creative expression.

Understanding how a digital camera works is the first step in mastering photography. This course gets you familiar with your camera and helps you navigate its features and settings. Knowing how and why to change shooting modes or settings allows you to adapt to different shooting conditions. The student will learn about focus and exposure control, which is essential for capturing well-lit and sharp images as well as photography composition helping the student create visually appealing photos by arranging elements within the frame effectively.

This class teaches photographers how Adobe Lightroom can help edit and organize your photos. Keeping your photos organized and cataloged makes it easy to find what you with collections grouping similar photos together. Basic editing techniques are taught and how you can apply these edits to multiple photos with just one click. Editing for portraits and landscapes tailors the adjustments to fit different types of photography.
