Workers in the information technology (IT) industry develop the software and hardware that make our lives easier, and they fix and help us use these tools. Because they occur in almost any industry, the three IT occupations that are likely to have the largest total job openings in North Carolina include applications software developers, computer user support specialists, and computer systems analysts.

This training combines theory and 85% hands-on activites to prepare students to take the CFOT test that is sanctioned by the FOA. Fee: $800

This course is designed to train experienced healthcare or information technology professionals to provide on-site technical support for 'EHR' Electronic Health Record systems. Topics include: executing implementation plans, incorporating usability principles into design and implementation of EHRs, and ensuing performance outcomes. The successful student will be able to provide onsite user support services for healthcare information technology in a healthcare setting.

This program is designed to provide hands-on training with government-certified electronic health records software. You will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be prepared for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) certification exams through the National Healthcareer Association, as well as the CompTIA A+ certification exam. A voucher for the CEHRS exam and 2 vouchers for the A+ exam is included with the program ($420 value).

This course covers repairing, servicing, and upgrading computers and peripherals in preparation for industry certification. Topics include CPU/memory/bus identification, disk subsystems, hardware/software installation/configuration, common device drivers, data recovery, system maintenance, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to safely repair and/or upgrade computer systems to perform within specifications.

This course provides an overview of business productivity applications. Topics may include wordprocessing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in producing professional business documents.

Subject matter includes a detailed study of ANSI/TIA/EIA-526-(7)A, OTDR fundamentals and uses, OTDR vs. Insertion Loss Testing, Return Loss Testing, and Attenuation testing using the Power Source and Light Meter. Pre-requisite: CFOT. Fee: $725

Comments: Jeff Shore wjshore321@wilkescc.edu 336-838-6206~This 2-day, 16-hour Splicing Specialist training includes a complete PowerPoint presentation explaining the importance of high-performance splicing and details the points necessary to acheive these splices. Also includes 85% hands-on classroom activities to provide training in both fusion and mechanical splicing in either single or multimode fiber optic cables. Students will be responsible for successfully making and testing both mechanical and fusion splices. Pre-requisite: CFOT. Fee: $725.
