Wilkes Community College would like to congratulate our student and employee winners in the 54th Annual National Career Development Association’s (NCDA) Poetry and Art Contest. All four of WCC’s winners placed in the state contest before proceeding to the nationals. Adrian Guerrero won 1st place nationally in the Mixed Media Art Category and Jayme Martin won 2nd place nationally. Both students were enrolled in Amber Ardner’s Computer Design Basics course during the fall semester. Sabrina Bowman, WCC student activities coordinator, won 1st place nationally in the Adult Open Mixed Media Art Category, and Sonya Jordan, CNA instructor, won 1st place nationally in the Adult Open Poetry Category. Each November, schools, and colleges from across the state hold contests to celebrate National Career Development Month. Winners from these local contests are then forwarded to the state contest and state winners are forwarded to the national contest. The NCDA, a division of the American Counseling Association, sponsors the poetry and art contest to highlight the importance of life-long career development. Entrants are invited to inspire career development while emphasizing the national theme. This year’s theme was “My Inspiring Future Career.” Multiple divisions in the contest include grades K-12, adult students, and open adult categories.
