Over 100 Alleghany kindergarten students and teachers visited The Alleghany Center of Wilkes Community College and the Alleghany County Public library to hear Dr. Seuss’s, The Lorax. Following story time, students participated in arts and crafts, provided by WCC’s Early Childhood Creative Activities class.
“This is the best day of my whole life,” expressed one young kindergartner as he walked through the halls of WCC. “That’s why we do this. Getting that response from a child gives our work value. We plant the seed and they will remember this for a long time. Hopefully, long enough to want to be WCC students when they are older,” said Susan Nilo, director of the Alleghany Center.
WCC staff, dressed in costume, visited preschool classes at Piney Creek, Glade Creek, and Sparta schools; and arranged for the schools to transport all kindergartners to the Alleghany Center for an exciting day.
