The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for Wilkes Community College (WCC) students. With the transition to all online courses, the need for broadband services for students increased exponentially.

In response to the increasing demands for broadband services during the COVID-19 pandemic, Carolina West Wireless (CWW) is reaching to help its customers access the services they need. “We understand this is a challenging time and we are here to support Wilkes Community College and our communities, states Jackie Mallory, CWW chief marketing and sales officer.

Effective April 6, through May 31, 2020, depending on their current CWW rate plan, customers are eligible to receive bonus data or bonus minutes. Select fees may also be waived to help any customer experiencing financial difficulties. It is not necessary to call into the customer care center or to a store. Everything can be done online and requires that online action. An MMS/text message has been sent to all CWW customers with a link that redirects them to their website landing page. Complete details are listed on the CWW website landing page.

“Partners like Carolina West Wireless make it possible to meet the technology needs of our students during COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mr. Michael Wingler, vice president of information technology/CIO. “In addition to the fast response to increasing data plans, CWW provided temporary hotspots for students who otherwise would not have adequate access to participate in online courses.”

“We are so fortunate to have great companies like Carolina West Wireless in our communities,” said Dr. Jeff Cox, WCC President.  “They are always willing to step up and help our students when we have a need.  Increasing internet access and capacity is critical for our students to complete their schoolwork virtually.”
