Personal Counseling
Personal counseling is provided to currently enrolled Wilkes Community College students on a short term basis. The goal is to assist students in developing better coping strategies, resolve conflicts, and handle crisis situations. Referrals to community agencies or resource persons are made if it is apparent that individuals can be assisted more appropriately in this manner.
The counseling staff adheres to the Ethical Standards of the American Counseling Association. All counseling is confidential with the exception of imminent danger to self or others, or when legal requirements demand that confidential information be revealed.
Confidential online screening is available via Mental Health America.

START Services
Wilkes Community College now offers a benefit to all students and their immediate family members known as the Student Assistance & Resources Today (START) program. We have partnered with McLaughlin Young Group, an independent provider of START services. Enrollment is not required, and you are eligible to use START as of August 1, 2020.
START offers help for personal, professional or school concerns by providing free, confidential, short-term counseling and personal consultation. Additionally, START provides consultation and resources for legal and financial issues, online learning, and mental health concerns. There is no cost for phone calls or virtual, telephonic or face-to-face visits with START.
START staff at McLaughlin Young are ready to assist you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
