We are delighted to announce that WCC’s Business and Public Service Technology Division and WCC Workplace Connections are hosting a FREE community event entitled “Don’t Get Scammed.”
Last year, scammers managed to steal over $3.4 billion from elderly Americans, according to a report by the FBI, cited in an article published by AP News on April 30, 2024, (https://bit.ly/3Xm4chU). This alarming figure reflects a growing trend of criminals using increasingly sophisticated tactics to deceive vulnerable individuals into relinquishing their life savings.
According to the FBI’s findings, scam-related losses reported by Americans aged 60 and above increased by 11% compared to the previous year. Investigators have cautioned about the emergence of daring schemes aimed at depleting victims’ bank accounts, including tactics such as dispatching couriers to collect cash or gold in person.
