Wilkes Community College held its Nursing Pinning Ceremony on Monday evening, May 13, at the John A. Walker Community Center.

Those graduates who have achieved the Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing are:

Jane Adams, Valerie Bailey, Cindi Howell, Dawn Hendren, Stephanie Lunsford, Karen Norris, Emily Orr, Jayne Phipps-Boger, Pamela Rhoades, Leanne Sidden, and Amy Walsh, served on the faculty teaching the graduates in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.

The evening began with pianist Ms. Marty Franklin giving the prelude and graduate Ms. Jessica Tritt delivering the invocation. First-year nursing student Ms. Pressley Church sang “When You Remember” by Carrie Underwood. Dr. Jeff Cox, president of WCC, welcomed everyone, and Dr. Jerry Pinkerton offered opening comments. Ms. Emily Orr, Director of Nursing, presented the graduates; Ms. Valerie Bailey, nursing instructor, and Ms. Pamela Courville, nursing instructor, presented the pins; and Ms. Dawn Hendren, nursing instructor presented the lamps. The Class of 2019 surprised Ms. Bailey with a nursing pin and lamp, since she did not get to participate in a pinning ceremony when she graduated nursing school. Graduate Mr. Ronnie Shane Minton pinned Ms. Bailey and graduate Ms. Payton York offered comments. The Class of 2019 also surprised Mrs. Rhoades with flowers and special recognition for her years of service to the college. Ms. Orr offered comments, and graduate Mr. Chad Patrick offered comments and presented flowers to Mrs. Rhoades. Graduate Mr. Ryan Estep sang “The Time of My Life” by David Cook and graduate Mr. Ronnie Shane Minton followed with the graduate comments.

Mrs. Boger began “The Florence Nightingale Pledge” as the graduates recited it. The evening concluded with graduate Ms. Sabrina Walton offering the benediction and “Best News Ever” by Mercy Me playing as the graduates left the stage.
