Wilkes Community College would like to congratulate our student, faculty, and staff winners in the state National Career Development Association’s (NCDA) Poetry and Art Contest. Adrian Guerrero won 1st place in the Mixed Media Art Category, Jayme Martin won 2nd place, and Lexi Thomas won 3rd Place. The students were enrolled in Amber Arnder’s fall semester Computer Design Basics course.
Sabrina Bowman, student activities coordinator, finished 1st in the state in the Adult Open Mixed Media Art Category and Sonja Jordan, CNA instructor, placed 2nd in the state in the Adult Open Poetry Category. All five winning entries will automatically be sent to the national contest and will be featured at the national NCDA Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota this summer.
Each November, schools and colleges from across the state hold contests to celebrate National Career Development Month. Winners from these local contests are then sent to the state contest. The NCDA, a division of the American Counseling Association, sponsors the poetry and poster contest to highlight the importance of life-long career development. Entrants are invited to inspire career development while emphasizing the national theme. This year’s theme was “My Inspiring Future Career”. Multiple divisions in the contest include grades K-12, adult students, and open adult categories. State winners will automatically continue to the national level competition.
