The Wilkes Community College Small Business Center has a variety of seminars scheduled for April that support the development of new businesses and the growth of existing businesses. These seminars are offered at no charge to participants unless otherwise noted; however, attendees must pre-register to participate.

Basics of Bookkeeping – April 5, 2018, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. – Wilkes Campus, Beacon Hall

Gain a working knowledge of how to properly record financial transactions for small businesses. Discover the three most important financial reports and how to use them to make the best informed business decisions. This seminar is designed for both new business owners and seasoned entrepreneurs who need a refresher on the basics of accounting.

Fundraising Fundamentals– April 10, 2018, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. – Wilkes Campus, Beacon Hall

Non-Profit organizations must diversify their funding streams or risk closing the doors when that “one source” dries up. This workshop is a game changer for board members or staff members who are ready to develop the new, diverse funding streams needed to sustain and grow the organization. Participants will evaluate the pros and cons of diversified funding, best practices for new capacity building opportunities, the primary elements of successful fundraising, and time management skills needed to navigate a new world of resource development.

How to Market Your Business: Don’t Keep It a Secret – April 11, 2018, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. – Wilkes Campus, Beacon Hall

Marketing for the 21st century small business is more dynamic and challenging than ever. Time and money can be spent in many ways. Participants will discover how to most effectively and efficiently use the various marketing tools available today. Decision-makers will go through the process of choosing between traditional brick‐and‐mortar and web‐based business, or one that combines both features; and deciding whether to focus locally, nationally, or to spread into the international waters of business. This seminar teaches business owners and nonprofit executives how to navigate the challenges of developing a marketing strategy that best suits their organization. How to Write a Business Plan – April 17, 2018, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. – Ashe Campus

A business plan can be the most important tool a small business owner has. Learn how to turn business ideas into a solid plan for financing and long‐term success. This seminar teaches participants the important components of a business plan and helps lay the foundation for a winning plan. Participants will discover how marketing, operations, and finance are interrelated; how a business plan is used by potential lenders; and the dos and don’ts of writing a plan. This seminar is designed for new and established business owners and will follow the NCREAL Curriculum.
