Wilkes Community College awarded Golden LEAF Scholarships to 18 students – 15 curriculum and three occupational education – during the spring 2019 semester. The Golden LEAF Scholarship program, designed to help North Carolinians attend the state’s community colleges, is funded through a $750,000 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation. The following is a list of recipients of the golden leaf scholarship for spring 2019.
Golden Leaf recipients who were enrolled in curriculum and/or continuing education programs for spring 2019 were: Benjamin Brown, Alleghany County; Elizabeth Goodman, Ashe County; Alexus Hamm, Ashe County; Mary Hannewald, Ashe County; Brandy Hardin-O’Neal, Ashe County; Zachary Holman, Ashe County; Devin Honeycutt, Alexander County; Santana Horton, Surry County; Ashley Kerr, Wilkes County; Eric Lunsford, Wilkes County; Nhung Nguyen, Wilkes County; Kara Parker, Ashe County; Amy Patrick, Ashe County; Benjamin Pluche, Wilkes County; Jasmine Snider, Wilkes County; Elva Swibold, Ashe County; Susan Trull, Wilkes County; and Bailey Witherspoon, Ashe County.
Curriculum students may apply for up to $750 per semester, including summer term, and occupational education students are eligible for up to $250 per term. Awards may be applied toward tuition, fees, books and supplies at the community college where enrolled; transportation; childcare expenses related to attending classes; and industry-recognized credential testing upon course completion.
Eligible students must demonstrate financial need and reside in rural counties that are tobacco-dependent and/or economically distressed. Scholarships are awarded during the fall, spring and summer semesters.

The Golden LEAF Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to help transform North Carolina’s economy.
