This course (96 hours) is designed for individuals who will be trained to work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The course provides the student with basic knowledge and skills required to work as a technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy. Applicant must have a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency and strong math skills. Topics covered include:
- drug classification
- drug distribution
- anatomy and physiology as related to disease and drug therapy
- laws and regulations of pharmacy practice
Upon satisfactory completion, students are instructed how to apply for their National Certification Examination (currently $129.00). The exam is usually given 3 times per year in various locations across the state (closest Winston Salem).
