In conjunction with National Apprenticeship Week, Wilkes County Schools and Wilkes Community College will be hosting an informational meeting for industry and businesses in Wilkes County that have an interest in starting an apprenticeship program in 2019. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at the Wilkes County Board of Education Board Room from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Apprenticeship Wilkes currently has apprenticeship programs in place with Gardner Glass, Inc., Interflex Group, InfusionPoints, and Wilkes Communications.
“Gardner Glass Products could not be more pleased with the progress of both the pre and full apprenticeship programs. These programs offer an opportunity for many employers in Wilkes County to engage our youth at an early age and offer hope for their future, while developing talent in key positions to better position our companies for success,” stated Randall Parsons, director of human resources, Gardner Glass Products, Inc.
The Apprenticeship Wilkes program is open to juniors and seniors at all high schools and the early college. Students are required to complete an orientation week activity prior to the pre-apprenticeship. Students will engage in business partner interviews and selection of pre-apprentices will be announced in April. The pre-apprenticeship will be held in the summer. Offers for full apprenticeships will be given in August and a signing ceremony will be held in August for all full apprentices.
