Alleghany Center
The Alleghany Center is supported by a growing student enrollment. It offers a variety of educational opportunities at a convenient location to meet the needs of residents of Alleghany County. The Alleghany Center is located at 115 Atwood Street, Sparta, NC. Driving directions: Hwy 18 N; turn left onto Grayson Street; turn left onto Atwood Street. The Alleghany Center Director is Jayne Phipps-Boger and the administrative assistant is Kathryn Abernathy (336) 372-5061.
Classes are held in seventeen classrooms including computer laboratories and a cyber classroom. In addition, there are office spaces, a student commons area, and a reception area. Curriculum classes are offered in Business Administration, Information Systems Technology, Early Childhood Associate, Human Services Technology, Arts and Sciences, and Industrial Maintenance Technology.
Huskins Bill classes are available to Alleghany High School students 9th to 12th grades. Classes are offered at Alleghany High School before, during, and after the curriculum day for Huskins Bill students to earn college credit. Concurrent enrollment students, 16 years or older, may attend classes at the WCC Alleghany Center for college credit. Students are concurrently enrolled in high school and WCC.
Adult High School and Adult Basic Education programs operate year round. The Adult High School program allows students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma awarded by the Alleghany County Board of Education and WCC or prepare for the GED. An active volunteer program assures that students receive personal attention and one-on-one instruction.
Small business seminars, in-service industrial training, job-skill development, and community service classes are available. Occupational Extension classes include Firefighter, Emergency Service, Criminal Justice, and Health Occupations training.
The Alleghany Job Link office is also located at this address. Job Link provides employment and training services to residents through its partners which include North Carolina Employment Security Commission, Wilkes Community College/JTPA, Childcare Resources, Vocational Rehab, Work First, and Job Ready. Job placement, childcare referral, and assistance with education are just some of the services they provide.

Ashe Center
The Ashe Center has recently celebrated the addition of new classrooms, a cyber-classroom, an auditorium, a student commons, and office space. The Ashe Center is located at the foot of Mount Jefferson adjacent to the Ashe County High School. WCC's Ashe Center offers a very wide variety of programs and courses in classrooms including computer laboratories and a cyber classroom. The Ashe Center Director is Chris Robinson and the administrative assistant is Loretta Johnson (336) 846-3900.
Curriculum programs in Business Administration, Arts and Sciences, Office Systems Technology, Information Systems, Early Childhood, and Industrial Maintenance Technology are examples of the programs offered at this location.
Also, numerous courses are offered in Adult High School Diploma, GED, Literacy Training, Emergency Medical Training, Firefighter Training, and other areas of continuing education throughout the year. These types of courses are offered at many locations throughout Ashe County, both during the day and evening hours.
