The wooded and beautifully landscaped 150-acre main campus is located in Wilkesboro, just off highways US 421 and NC 268 west. Extension centers are located in West Jefferson and Sparta. The Wilkesboro campus has grown from three buildings on the current site to include over 297,000 square feet of classrooms, laboratories, shops, student areas, and offices in ten buildings. A new science and technology building is scheduled for completion on the Wilkes Campus in 2006. Also located on the main campus is the 1,131-seat John A Walker Community Center. The center provides a wide variety of cultural and entertainment performances throughout the year. WCC also hosts MerleFest, an Americana music festival held annually during the last week of April.
Wilkes Community College offers a variety of programs through four curriculum divisions: Arts and Sciences; Allied Health; Business and Public Services; and Industrial and Engineering Technologies. The college also provides basic skills and continuing education opportunities. To meet the constantly changing needs of a diverse audience of learners, WCC offers unique methods of course delivery via distance learning. Distance learning activities at Wilkes Community College provide services to curriculum and continuing education students, to citizens in the service area and beyond. Distance education is designed to provide course delivery and includes telecourses, Internet courses, teleconferences, and courses produced via the cyber classroom. During the 2003/04 academic year 3,656 curriculum students and 9,907 continuing education students took advantage of the programs and courses offered by the college.
